I am not a fan of San Jose Real Estate prices. As with many large cities the home prices can be way too expensive for most and buying a home seems unreachable.
Years ago I lived and worked in Orange County California and my friends had just gotten married and started their careers as attorneys. They lived in a small apartment in Los Angeles but purchased a beautiful condo in Palm Springs (108 miles from LA). They spent each weekend in Palm Springs and that was their Primary Home because it was the only home they owned.
The interest rate on a Primary Home purchase is the best rate; better than a second home or an investment property rate.
My wife and I own a home in Groveland, Calif that we purchased as second home but after years we made the home a vacation rental because we were not visiting the home frequently enough. (https://www.vacasa.com/unit/23140). A couple lived down the street from us in Groveland and that was their Primary home. During the week they lived with parents in San Jose, 140 miles away.
If you don’t own a home and want to own eventually, the most important thing you can do is just get started. Buying out of the immediate area is one way to start. Start thinking about buying and start to plan. A best way is, begin conversations with a Realtor or Lender who is willing to support you and give guidance.
